Port Alberni, British Columbia Moving Companies
North American Van Lines: The Best of Port Alberni Moving Companies
Situated in the southern region of British Columbia, the Canadian city of Port Alberni features a longstanding history as territory for both the Hupacasath and Tseshaht First Nations, with these groups originally being collectively referred to as Nookta. Modern Port Alberni features a significantly large population, being home to over 25,000 citizens in its total census agglomeration area. The city’s namesake, Alberni, derives from a renowned 18th century Spanish officer, Pere d'Alberní, who was responsible for commanding the historical Fort San Miguel located in what is now known as Nookta Sound.
The early development of the Port Alberni region was host to significant presences from industries ranging from sawmilling to gold mining—over time, many of these establishments grew to become prominent presences throughout the region, giving rise to a modern Port Alberni that features a diverse range of industries and businesses with a variety of historical roots. The 20th century in Port Alberni gave rise to the development of railways, both local and national, and prompted the continued expansion of the fledgling port town into a strategically located city of industry that served the British Columbia region throughout multiple world wars, and a number of local scale cataclysms.
Present day Port Alberni continues this trend, existing as a supply and service center for a large number of neighboring regions and governments. Interestingly, the local government of Port Alberni has expressed interest in developing it as more of a tourist destination in recent years.
