North American Van Lines: The Best of Halifax Moving Companies

Halifax is Nova Scotia’s capital city as well as the largest city in Canada’s Atlantic provinces that serves as as seaport and cultural and economic hub for the area.

The city was founded in 1749 as a British military outpost, and in 2012, Halifax was named the fourth best place to live in Canada by MoneySense magazine. Today Halifax is home to more than 300,000 residents, so you can enjoy an urban feel without too much crowding.

Halifax experiences a maritime climate with pleasant summers and mild winters. In the winter temperatures average around 3 degrees Celsius and in the summer they climb to 23 degrees Celsius.

Attractions and Activities in Halifax

Learn about the city’s military history with a trip to the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. The area was established in 1749 as part of the Anglo-French rivalry that occurred during this time period, and today the site has been restored to what it looked like in the Victorian period. You can watch 78th Regiment of Foot and 78th Highlanders Pipe Band reenactment of what life was like back then.

Another great spot to learn about Halifax’s past is at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic where you can see collections of marine history including displays on small craft boat building and World War convoys. You can also check out a permanent exhibit dedicated to the Titanic and Nova Scotia’s connection to recovering  victims of this infamous event. You’ll see a collection of wooden artifacts from the “unsinkable ship” including one of the only surviving deck chairs.

Halifax hosts a variety of events through the year. In August, you can check out the Busker Street Festival and watch performers along the waterfront, and in September you can marvel at aerial acrobatics at the Nova Scotia International Air Show.
